Sports Ankle Injury

1. Plantar Fascitis:


Inflammation of the plantar fascia, a ligament that lies beneath the foot.



Symptoms include pain in initial few steps of walking.


Management:


Rest


Pain Medication


Physiotherapy includes exercises and ultrasound therapy



PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) or Steroid Injection


Steroid injection


Surgery:


If the above methods fail, the surgeon will plan for plantar fascia release either by open or keyhole method.

2. Achilles tendinitis:


Here the large tendon that runs down the back of your lower leg becomes irritated and inflamed.




Management:


Rest & Ice packs


Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs


Cortisone injections


Physiotherapy includes exercises and Ultrasound therapy:

ULTRASOUND THERAPY


Surgery:


If the above methods fail then the surgeon will plan for Gastrocnemius recession.


3. Flat Foot:


A condition that results in a flattened arch with the foot pointed outward.


A common and a painless condition usually develops when the arches don’t develop during childhood. In other cases, flatfeet develops after an injury or wear and tear with age.

Symptoms:


Foot pain particularly in the heel or arch area.

Pain may worsen with activity.


Management:

In most cases, this will be cured with Orthotics or Physiotherapy.


Medial arch support

If the above methods fail, Surgery can be a very effective way to help with the pain and deformity.
